Days are getting shorter and the new season is fast approaching. For AW19, there’s a plethora of trends to navigate, meaning there’s something for everyone from the minimalist to the statement-maker, from paintbox brights and gelato hues to shades of beige and dark, romantic florals.

#Stickofbutter

If you’ve not yet heard of the trend coined by Man Repeller’s Fashion Director Harling Ross, you’re in for a treat this autumn. While shades of Gen Z yellow are recurring summer favourites thanks to their mood-lifting power and association with joy and clarity, buttery hues are the palette to go for this season. A fresh and sugary yet humble addition to a minimalistic wardrobe, dress head-to-toe in pale yellow hues to achieve the covetable #stickofbutter look. Alternatively, autumnal shades of golden marigold yellow add a splash of saturated colour to winter wardrobes.

Dark Florals

Florals for springs might be a celebrated wardrobe staple, but for autumn, romantic floral prints on black silhouettes offer a nostalgic, 40-inspired vintage feel. Far removed from dainty pastel summer styles, roses splashed on black dresses and florals embroidered onto outerwear pieces channel elevated grunge-meets-elegance.

Power Shoulders

The AW19 trend landscape is a game of two halves, with minimalist neutrals and toned- down dressing contrasting OTT wardrobe drama and overstated styles. Bold shoulders are full of overwhelming, maximalist detail, and an ability to send a multitude of sartorial messages, channelling both ultra-femininity and confidence with attention-grabbing silhouettes. Boxy shapes offer an edgier look, while overstated puff sleeves effortlessly elevate any casual ensemble. Power dressing and hyper-femininity invoked in equal measures.

70s Bourgeois

The perfect source of office dressing inspiration, 70s middle-class silhouettes are making a comeback, with silk blouses, over-the-knee hemlines and classic blazers elevating bourgeois dressing from frumpy to chic. Look for sophisticated tailoring in minimalistic shades of brown and beige, and accessorise with bouclé, polished pearls and silk scarves.

Autumnal Leather

The AW catwalks saw an abundance of the finest sweet leather in autumnal shades of olive, tan and burgundy. An all-time autumnal favourite, this season leather signifies luxury and indulgence, the perfect fabric for a smooth, polished look with a win of attitude. Best worn in the form of trench coats, midi skirts or oversized mini dresses (see Ganni’s puff-sleeved lambs leather mini).

Neutral Hues

A favourite for SS19 that isn’t going anywhere, neutral colour palettes in shades ranging from camel to caramel, to stone and beige are warm, minimalistic and easy-to-wear. For autumn, layer up in tonal looks made up of varying neutral hues.
